Share the good times with family and friends.
Record beautiful memories on your choice of HDD or Memory Stick. Then easily share them with loved ones in various ways.
Shooting video
This convenient Hybrid function lets you record video footage and still images on your choice of HDD or Memory Stick media. The 60GB HDD stores up to around 41 hours and 50 minutes of MPEG2 video in the 3M (LP) mode or around 14 hours and 40 minutes in the 9M (HQ) mode. Thanks to the nature of non-linear media, you don’t have to worry about over-writing recorded footage: new data is automatically written in blank, unrecorded space on the HDD. Moreover, you can immediately watch or erase newly recorded footage without rewinding. Just press the desired thumbnail on the touch panel LCD.

Hybrid
The Hybrid design of the DCR-SR85E gives you extra flexibility. You can record video footage and still images on the HDD, Memory Stick, or both media. And you can transfer recorded files from the HDD to Memory Stick HYBRID
icon Easy "dubbing" within your Handycam®
Recorded images and movies on the HDD can easily be copied to Memory Stick media. Using various "dubbing" functions, you can copy specific scenes, all recorded footage registered in the playlist, or footage shot on certain dates. Now it's easier than ever to share image and video highlights with your family and friends.
Note: Sony recommends using Memory Stick media of at least 512MB capacity for SD video recording.
* Both Mark2 labeled or unlabeled can be used.
Archiving video
Backing up your original footage for future viewing with your friends and family is extremely easy. You can use the One Touch Disc Burn button on the camcorder (or connected Handycam® Station) to quickly burn a DVD on a connected PC or linked DVDirect DVD recorder. With a single press, it only burns new footage shot since the last disc was burned. Or use Easy PC Backup to transfer content from the camcorder to the HDD of a connected PC. Only files recorded since your last backup are transferred. You can later export footage back to the DCR-SR85E by using the Write-back function of supplied Picture Motion Browser software.
HDD Smart Protection
Should the DCR-SR85E be dropped or knocked, HDD Smart Protection helps protect the HDD and your important footage via three protective measures. A unique shock absorber around the HDD helps absorb the energy of impact. An advanced 3G sensor disengages the HDD read/write head to help prevent scratches when it detects a loss of gravity. And a drop stream buffer stores footage that the DCR-SR85E continues to record. Once drop-detection has been cleared, the HDD is re-engaged and content is transferred from the buffer to the HDD to help ensure seamless, uninterrupted footage.
Note: HDD Smart Protection does not guarantee prevention of HDD breakage.
Shock absorber
A uniquely shaped shock absorber wrapped around the top and bottom of the hard disk helps protect it from shock.

Video Stream Buffering feature
While the camcorder falls, the HDD read/write head enters the protected position and the camcorder records video data to a buffer. The buffer automatically transfers the data to the HDD once the head returns to the standard position.
Take still images too!
In addition to capturing moving images, the HDR-SR85E can capture still images whenever you like. These images are shot at a 1.0-megapixel resolution (1152 x 864 pixels), which is ample for small prints.
Extract frames as still images
After shooting video footage, you can easily extract frames and save them as still images using nothing but the camcorder. Simply enter the Playback Mode, search your footage for the desired frame, and extract it as a 1.0-megapixel still image. You can also extract frames from your video footage on a PC. Either way, you can create photos of exactly the right moment.

Direct printing from Handycam®
You can easily print still images without using a PC. Just insert your Memory Stick media in a DPP-FP90/70/60 digital photo printer, select images on the high quality colour LCD, and print away! Or when using any PictBridge™ compatible printer, just connect it to your Handycam® camcorder via USB cable, select images on the Handycam® camcorder’s LCD, and print! As for DPP-FP90/70 print quality, with Sony’s unique new Auto Touch-Up function, memorable shots marred by red eye, backlighting, or focus problems are saved from the trash simply by pressing the pink Auto Touch-Up button. Automatically correcting these problems is one way DPP-FP90/FP70 printers give you the strikingly beautiful prints you expect.

Versatile Handycam Station
Handycam Station can significantly enhance your digital video lifestyle. Keep it linked with devices like PCs, TVs, and printers (via AV and USB ports) so you can dock your Handycam® for instant connection to those devices at any time. Docking your Handycam® in the Handycam Station also charges your battery automatically. In addition, a single press of the One Touch Disk Burn button transfers your latest video footage (what hasn’t yet been burned) to a PC for DVD creation. It’s the easy way to burn movie DVDs.
