What to do if the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device is not recognized correctly when it is first connected to USB3.0?

    The MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device is not recognized correctly when it is first connected to USB3.0. If the problem occurs, the device would no longer be recognized in other USB3.0 or USB2.0 port. This issue occurs in USB3.0 driver Ver 2.1.16.0.

     

    The list of MTP devices which may not be recognized correctly are the following:

    • Sony WALKMAN®
    • Sony TabletTM 
    • Play Station® Vita
    • Other MTP devices

    This symptom can be avoided by downloading and installing USB3.0 Update driver Ver 2.1.19.0. To resolve the symptom, refer to the steps below:

    1. Safely remove any connected devices (USB Memory).
    2. USB device driver will be updated. If there is no update available, proceed to step 3.
    3. On Start menu, right-click Computer, click Properties.
       
    4. Click Device Manger displayed on the left side of the window.

      • For affected device such as Sony Tablet or PS Vita, do the following:
        1. Connect the affected device to USB2.0 port.
        2. The device is listed on the tem under Others device with a yellow mark.

        3. Right-click the device from the list, then click Uninstall.

        4. On the Device Manager window, click Action, then click Scan for hardware changes.

        5. It will download and update the driver. Once completed, the device is displayed under Portable Devices.

          In your computer, it is listed under Portable Devices.

      • For affected device such as Walkman, do the following:
        1. Connect the affected device to USB2.0 port.
        2. The device is listed as USB Mass Storage Device under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

          In your computer, it is listed under Devices with Removable Storage Device.

        3. Click Universal Serial Bus controllers.
        4. Right-click USB Mass Storage Device, then click Uninstall.

        5. On the Device Manager window, click Action, then click Scan for hardware changes.

        6. It will download and update the driver. Once completed, the device is displayed under Portable Devices.
