How do I open an attached file of my E-mail in Microsoft Outlook ?

When I try to open an attached file of an e-mail, the message "Open with" appears.

The application to be used for opening the file varies depending on the file format of the attached file. Therefore, you have to use the application that matches the file format of the attached file to open it.

In the case of an image file with the extension of JPEG, for example, you may open it by associating it with Internet Explorer.
In the case of a document file, you may associate it with Notepad or Wordpad.

You can usually open the attached file associated with an application simply by double-clicking on it.
When it is not associated, you need to perform the following steps. The following is an example of opening a JPEG file that is not associated with any application.

Method 1

1) Double-click the attached file and the [Open With] window appears, showing a list of applications to open the file.
2) In the case of the JPEG file, click "iexplore" from the list and click [OK].

Note: You may select applications other than "iexplore" so long as they can open JPEG files.

Method 2

1) Right-click on the attached file and click [Save as] from the menu.
2) The [Save Destination] window appears. Specify a desired location (My Documents, Desktop, etc.) in the hard disk drive from the list box of [Save to] and click the [Save] button.
3) Browse to the location where the file was saved and double-click the file to open it.

Some files, however, are created with applications which are not include in the Standard Windows. It is recommended that you check with the sender, the format of the attached file first and then open it with an approriate application.

Furthermore, there has been quite a few cases recently that computer viruses are sent unexpectedly together with mails. To avoid such malicious mails and files, we suggest that you check the contents and format of the attached file with the sender before you try to open it.
