TV Automatic Updates & LED Behaviour

Sony TVs are designed to automatically install important software updates to improve performance, stability, security, and compatibility with services and applications.
Updates may be installed automatically when the TV is in standby mode (power OFF state) to minimize disruption during normal usage. 

Your TV may be undergoing an automatic software update.

During software update installation, the TV status LED may blink temporarily even while the TV is powered OFF. This is normal behavior and indicates that the TV is processing the update in the background.

The blinking typically lasts only a few minutes.

While the software update is being installed, some TV functions are temporarily unavailable to ensure the update completes safely and correctly.

During this time:

• The TV may not respond to the remote control or power button

• The screen may remain OFF

The process usually completes within a few minutes. Once the update is finished, the TV will operate normally again.

If the TV has not completed a scheduled update for an extended period, the system may retry the installation later when conditions allow. In rare cases, this could occur while the TV is in use and may cause:

• Temporary interruption of viewing

• A restart

Once the update is finished, the TV will operate normally again.

The TV is designed with protection mechanisms to reduce the risk of update failure. However, if power is interrupted during a critical part of the installation process, the TV may not start properly afterward.

To avoid this:

• Do not unplug the TV during an update

• Ensure stable power while updates are being installed

TV user interface (UI), menu layout, visual design, or app behavior may change due to software or application updates.

These changes may happen:

• After a TV software update (over‑the‑air update)

• Through application/service-side updates via Google Play Store

• Through server-side updates by Google or content providers

Some updates may occur automatically in the background or while the TV is in standby mode.
