• USB storage device: Prepare a USB storage device formatted only with FAT32
• USB type: USB 2.0
• USB storage size: over 256 MB and under 32 GB

Preparation

Check the Firmware Version

Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new home theater system. If the version number is 1.117 or 1.118 or higher, you do not need to update.
To check which firmware version you have, follow the steps below:

1. Turn on the home theater system.
2. Launch the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app.
3. Connect the home theater system to the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app.
4. Connect the rear amp box to the home theater system.
5. Select Settings in the remote menu.
   
6. In the Settings menu, select System Settings.
   
7. In the System Settings menu, select System Information.
   
8. Confirm the home theater system firmware version. (Ignore the 00 before the version number.)
   

Important Notice

• Read the instructions carefully.
• Do not turn off the home theater system while updating.
• Do not press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
• Do not unplug the power cable during the update. Doing so may cause damage and require repairs.
• Do not operate the home theater system until the update is complete.

Download and Install

If your computer can be connected to the Internet and a USB storage device, you can use the computer to perform the update according to the steps below.

Step 1: Transfer the Software Update File to the USB Storage Device Using a Computer

1. Click the Download button, read and agree to the terms and conditions, then click the Download button again. The download will start.
2. Save the file on your computer desktop or any location without changing the file name.
   Note: The image below shows “X.XXX_X.XXX” as an example. Replace “X.XXX_X.XXX” in the folder name with “1.117_1.118”.
   
3. Find the file on your computer, right-click the file, then click Properties. If the file size is 44.1 MB (46 286 801 bytes), the download was successful.
   Note: If the file size is not 44.1 MB (46 286 801 bytes), the download may have failed. Delete the file from your computer and download it again.
4. Double-click the downloaded file and select Extract all, then select Extract without changing the folder name.
5. When the extract is complete, an EG1_update_1.117_1.118 folder will be created. Make sure the EG1_update.zip file exists in that folder.
   Note: The image below shows “X.XXX_X.XXX” as an example. Replace “X.XXX_X.XXX” in the folder name with “1.117_1.118”.
   
6. Insert the USB storage device into your computer's USB port.
7. Create a folder named update on the USB storage device (not inside any other folder).
   
8. Open the update folder directly under the USB storage device and copy the downloaded EG1_update.zip file by dragging and dropping it.
   Note: Make sure there are no other files and save it directly under the USB storage device.
   
9. Confirm that the EG1_update.zip file exists in the update folder on the USB storage device. Once confirmed, the update file transfer is complete. You can proceed to Step 2: Update the Software of This Unit.

Step 2: Update the Software of This Unit

1. Connect the home theater system power cable.
2. On the home theater system or remote control, push the (Power) button and wait until the LED display shows the previous input.
3. Check whether a wireless amplifier is connected.
   Note: Connect a wireless amplifier if it’s not already connected. If needed, refer to the device's operating instructions for connection details.
4. Insert the USB storage device containing the software update into the home theater system.
5. When the home theater system's LED display starts flashing blue and white alternately, the automatic update process has begun.
6. The LED display on the home theater system will continue to flash during the update process. The update process takes about 6 minutes.
7. After the update, the home theater system will automatically restart, and the LED display will flash white every 2 seconds.
8. Remove the USB storage device from the home theater system.
9. After updating, unplug the home theater system's power cable and the wireless amplifier from the AC outlet, then plug them in again. This completes the update process.
10. Be sure to check that the software has been updated to the latest version by referring to the procedure in the Check the Firmware Version section of this page. If the correct version is not displayed, please check the version again after initializing the home theater system.
    • If you perform an initialization, the Bluetooth pairing information will also be deleted, so please perform the pairing again.
    • Depending on the connected device, it may be necessary to delete the Bluetooth device information on the connected device and then re-pair.
    • If the wireless amplifier disconnects, check the If the Subwoofer and Wireless Amplifier Are Not Connected Correctly section in the instruction manual, then reconnect.

Initialization Method

1. Press the (Power) button for at least 10 seconds.
   Note: Please check the instruction manual for details.

• Do not unplug the power cable during the update. Doing so may cause damage and require repairs.
• Do not operate the home theater system until the update is complete.
