Preparation

Check the firmware version

Follow these steps to check the currently installed firmware version of the unit:
Note: If the version is displayed as 1.25.07, you do not need to update the firmware.

  1. Turn the main unit ON.
  2. Select Settings from the Home screen.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select System Information. The current firmware version is then displayed.

Important notice

  • Park your car in a safe place and start the engine to prevent the battery voltage from becoming too low during the update process.
  • Do not turn off the unit during the update process.
  • Do not disconnect your smartphone or the USB storage device during the update process.
  • Set the date and time after the update process is complete.

    Download & Install

    Update using a USB storage device

    You can use the USB storage device to update the firmware. Download the update to your USB storage device and install it on the main unit.

    How to download the update

    1. Connect a USB storage device to your computer.
      Notes:
      • USB storage device formatted with FAT16, FAT32, or exFAT is supported.
      • USB storage device needs to have enough available space to store the file.
    2. Ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
    3. Download the update file (XAV-4000_1250700.eup) to your computer.
    4. Copy the file to the root directory of the USB storage device that is connected to your computer.
    5. Disconnect the USB storage device from your computer.

    Set up the equipment (Important)

    Note: Before changing connections, turn the car ignition off and disconnect the power supply leads (yellow and red) to avoid short circuits. After changing connections, connect the power supply leads (yellow and red) only after all other leads have been connected. For the details, please refer to Connection/Installation in the Operating Instructions.

    1. To enhance the stability of the performance of cameras, connecting the camera power cords (leads) to the accessory power terminal is strongly recommended.
    2. Turn the main unit ON.

    Step 1: Install the update

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. Connect the USB storage device to the USB port of the main unit.
    3. Select Settings from the Home screen.
      Note: If Settings is not seen in the Favorite area, touch All Apps to display the HOME2 screen, then select Settings.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Software Update.
    6. Select Update via Flash Drive.
      • If the message Update file is not found is displayed on the unit, check the file structure of the USB storage device. The update file may be missing or not be saved to the root directory. Or you may be using an old version or a corrupt update file.
    7. If the unit finds the available update from a USB storage device, the version is shown as 1.25.07.
      • If the version displayed is not 1.25.07, download the latest update file. You may not be using the correct update files.
    8. Select Update. The unit will then begin updating.
      Note: The update will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

    Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. Select Settings from the Home screen.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select System Information. The current firmware version will then be displayed. When 1.25.07 is displayed as the version number, this means that the firmware update is complete.

    If you are unable to update the firmware, please try again using a different USB storage device.

    Step 3: Set the date and time

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. Wait until the GPS is received.
      Note: The date and time might be changed to a different date and time.
    3. Select Settings from the Home screen.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Date/Time and set the date and the clock time.

    Update using a USB tethering

    You can update the unit with your smartphone by USB tethering. It usually takes about 15–30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update from the internet to the main unit.
    Note: There is no guarantee that this updating method can work with all smartphones. If you cannot update the firmware via USB tethering, please try the methods described in Troubleshooting: Update via USB tethering in Questions and answers If you still cannot update the firmware, please update via a USB storage device.

    Set up the equipment (Important)

    Note: Before changing connections, turn the car ignition off and disconnect the power supply leads (yellow and red) to avoid short circuits. After changing connections, connect the power supply leads (yellow and red) only after all other leads have been connected.     Step 1: Set the date and time

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. If the date and the clock time are not set, select Settings from the Home screen.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select Date/Time and set the date and the clock time.
      IMPORTANT: If the clock time is not set, the network communication may fail. Ensure that the current time is set to the clock.

    Step 2: Install the update

    1. Select Settings from the Home screen.
      Note: If Settings is not seen in the Favorite area, touch All Apps to display the HOME2 screen, then select Settings.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Software Update.
    4. Select Update via USB Tethering.
    5. Connect your smartphone to the USB port of the main unit using a USB cable.
    6. Enable your smartphone’s USB tethering.
      • Ensure that your smartphone is connected to the Internet.
      • To enable USB tethering, refer to your smartphone’s instruction manual.
    7. Select Next.
    8. If the unit finds the available firmware update, the version is shown as 1.25.07.
    9. Select Next.
    10. Check the disclaimer and End User License Agreement (EULA) shown on the screen before the download. If you agree to install the firmware, press Agree.
    11. Check the notes before starting the download.
    12. Press Update to start the download.
    13. The unit will then begin updating. The update will take approximately 15–30 minutes to complete.

    Step 3: Confirm that the update was successful

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. Select Settings from the Home screen.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select System Information. The current firmware version will then be displayed. When 1.25.07 is displayed as the version number, this means that the firmware update is complete.

    Step 4: Set the date and time

    1. Turn the main unit ON.
    2. Wait until the GPS is received.
      Note: The date and time might be changed to a different date and time.
    3. Select Settings from the Home screen.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Date/Time and set the date and the clock time.

    Questions & Answers

    Troubleshooting: Update using a USB storage device

    • The message Update file is not found is displayed: Check that the file XAV-4000_1250700.eup is properly saved in the root directory of the USB storage device. If it is saved, erase the existing file from the USB storage device or use a different USB storage device, and then retry the entire download and update from the beginning.
    • The message Update failed is displayed during the update: The USB storage device may be defective, or the update file may be corrupted. Press Restart to restart the unit and fall back the system. Erase the existing files from the USB storage device, or use a different USB storage device, and then retry the entire download and update from the beginning.

    Troubleshooting: Update using a USB tethering

    Note: There is no guarantee that this updating method can work with all smartphones. If you try the methods described but still cannot update the firmware, please update via a USB storage device.

    • The message Network communication failed is displayed: Retry the update in a place with a good signal condition. If the data and time are not set, set the correct time in the Date/Time settings. Disabling the Wi-Fi connection on the smartphone might resolve this.
    • The message USB Tethering is not available is displayed: Check that your smartphone is connected to the USB port and that USB tethering is enabled in the network setting. To enable USB tethering, refer to your smartphone’s instruction manual.
    • The message Current software is up to date is displayed: Update is already completed, and your unit is working with the latest firmware. No additional update is needed.
    • When you connect your smartphone to a USB port, CarPlay, or Android Auto automatically starts and the smartphone cannot switch to USB tethering: Disconnect the smartphone from the unit. And select SettingsSystemSoftware UpdateUpdate via USB Tethering. The message USB tethering is required for software download. is shown. Then reconnect your smartphone.
    • The firmware download is stopped and there is no change in the download progress for a long time: There can be a problem with the network connection. Cancel the download using the Cancel button and check the network access of your smartphone. Then retry the update.
