Most camcorders are not supported for use as a Webcam because after a few minutes of inactivity without recording the power will shut down to conserve the battery. However, if your camcorder has an Auto Shut Off (A.Shut Off) option in the menu, it can be set to either Off or Never to prevent it from automatically turning off. If your camcorder does not have this option, then it cannot be used as a Webcam.
IMPORTANT: Refer to the instructions supplied with your camcorder to determine if it has the A.Shut Off option.
NOTE: Camcorders that have the A.Shut Off option do not turn off automatically if connected to an electrical outlet. When connecting to an electrical outlet it is not necessary to select Off or Never in the menu.
If your camcorder can be set so it does not automatically turn off, follow the steps below to setup it up for use as a Webcam:
- Plug the AC power adapter for the camcorder into a working electrical outlet and then connect it to the camcorder.
- Connect the supplied composite video cable to the A/V jack on the camcorder.
- Connect the other end of the composite video cable to the VIDEO IN jack on the computer.
- Turn on the camera.
- Turn on the computer.
- Start the Webcam application to be used.
NOTE: Contact the software manufacturer for assistance with setting up or using the Webcam software if necessary.
