How to perform disk defragmenter in Windows Vista?

Perform Disk Cleanup or Disk Defragmenter.

    In Windows Vista, the default setting is that Disk Defragmenter runs automatically every seven days.
    The program will automatically perform Disk Defragmenter in the background.

    Note:
    In Windows Vista, Disk Defragmenter cannot be performed in Safe Mode.



    How to perform Disk Defragmenter?

    ● Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) has not been installed.
    ● Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) has already been installed.





    Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) has not been installed.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click System and Maintenance.



    3. On Administrative Tools, click Defragment your hard drive.



    4. When the User Account Control dialogue box appears, click Continue.
      For standard users, please refer to the related information below.



      If the User Account Control dialogue box does not appear, please perform the next step immediately.

    5. When the Disk Defragmenter dialogue box appears, click Defragment now.



    6. When Defragmenting hard disks... appears, the computer will defragment files in hard disk.
      According to the environments the computer is used in,  Disk Defragmenter may take from a few minutes to a few hours.



    7. After finishing Disk Defragmenter, record of the last running time will be updated and the key-press of Cancel defragmentation button changes into Defragment now automatically.
      Click Close.

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click System and Maintenance.



    3. On Administrative Tools, click Defragment your hard drive.



    4. When the User Account Control dialogue box appears, click Continue.

    5. When the Disk Defragmenter dialogue box appears, click Select volumes....


    6. User can select hard disk to defragment and click OK.


    7. When the Disk Defragmenter dialogue box appears, click Defragment now....



    8. When Defragmenting hard disk (C:)... appears,the computer will start defragmentation.
      According to the environments the computer is used in, Disk Defragmenter may take from a few minutes to a few hours.



    9. After finishing Disk Defragmenter, record of the last running time will be updated, the key-press Cancel defragmentation button will changes into Defragment now... automatically.
      Click OK and close Disk Defragmenter.






    How to modify defragmentation plan?

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.


    2. Click System and Maintenance.



    3. On Administrative Tools, click Defragment your hard drive.



    4. When the User Account Control dialogue box appears, click Continue.

      If the User Account Control dialogue box does not appear, please perform the next step immediately.

    5. When the Disk Defragmenter dialogue box appears, click Modify schedule....



    6. When the Disk Defragmenter: Modify Schedule dialogue box appears, user can change settings of How often, What day, What time and click OK.
