Using Clear Image Zoom
Clear Image Zoom enables you to zoom in up to 2× while keeping images clear and sharp, applying image processing with minimal loss of image quality. Using this feature, you can even zoom with prime lenses. Note that available camera features, menu naming, and restrictions may vary by model. Also refer to the camera Help Guide.
Example of use
These images of the moon show a comparison of the zoom features.
Each was captured with an ILCE-7M4 using an SEL70300G lens zoomed in to the 300 mm end. This is equivalent to 600 mm telephoto when Clear Image Zoom is used to zoom in 2×. Although Digital Zoom causes some loss of image quality, you can zoom in up to 4× — equivalent to 1200 mm telephoto — so that the moon fills the screen.

With a power zoom lens attached
With a power zoom lens attached, zoom by using the zoom lever or zoom ring. Keep using that control to continue zooming past the limit of optical zoom. The camera will switch to a method of zooming other than optical zoom.
Example when using FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G (SELP1635G)
- A: Zoom ring
- B: Zoom lever
- C: Focusing ring
On some cameras, attaching a power lens will prevent you from zooming from the menu or from using zoom features assigned to a custom key, in which case "Invalid with this lens." is displayed when you try to zoom this way. If so, zoom with the zoom lever or zoom ring.

Some features and settings cannot be used at the same time as Clear Image Zoom or Digital Zoom. Also refer to the Help Guide for your camera, as features and restrictions vary by model.
