How do I change the writing language when entering text?

You can write text, for example, text messages or email, using more than one language, for example, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi or Tamil. To be able to do this, you first have to add languages. Once you have added languages, you can change between them when using the keyboard.

    Android™ 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1 or 6.0

To add a writing language for text input

    1. When you enter text using the on-screen keyboard or Phonepad, tap the 12!?, 123 or +=@ key. The keys differ depending on keyboard layout and software version.
    2. Tap the settings key, then tap Keyboard settings.
    3. Tap Writing languages and mark the relevant checkboxes.
    4. Tap OK to confirm.
    5. If needed, select layout variant and tap OK to confirm.

Tip: From Android™ 4.2 or later, you only have to change writing languages manually when using different keyboard languages, for example to switch between Latin character input and Arab input.
