How can I use PCGA-CD51 to listen to a music CD via the internal speaker of my computer (Digital CD Playback)?
Some models and PC environment allow you to playback music CDs from the internal speaker of the PC. Please refer to the information below for the settings.
Analog Playback and Digital CD playback require different connection settings.
(Analog Playback)
CD-ROM drive - Audio Cable (via Analog cable) - Audio Chip
(Digital CD Playback)
CD-ROM drive - PC card (via PC card Bus) - Windows 98 - (via PC card Bus) - Audio Chip
Requirements for Digital CD Playback
- Audio Driver must be a WDM compatible.
- CD-ROM drive must be compatible to digital CD playback. (PCGA-CD51 and CD51/A is digital CD playback compatible.)
- The driver of CD-ROM drive must be compatible to digital CD playback.
* For Windows 98 or 98SE
- Check the [Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device] box on the [CD Music] tab of Multimedia Properties.
* For Windows Me
1) Right-click the [My Computer] icon and click [Properties] to open [System Properties].
2) Open the properties of the CD-ROM drive in use on the [Device Manager] tab and check the [Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device] box on the [Properties] tab.

# To change the settings to play back digital CD audio
1. Connect the CD-ROM drive to your computer.
2. Click Start and then click Settings and Control Panel.
3. Double-click on the Multimedia icon.
4. Click CD Music tab and select the option of Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device.
* Note
- To enable the playback of digital CD audio, the CD-ROM drive must be connected to the computer.
- When the digital playback is enabled, no signal is outputted from the line out.
- Connecting CD-ROM drive with the PC is required to activate digital CD playback.
- When you enable digital CD audio, you cannot output from Line Out of CD-ROM drive.
* Precautions when playing back music CD.
When you adjust the volume in Volume Control (Windows Slide Bar or Fn+F4) while playing a music CD, the sound might be stopped or cut. This symptom may occur when your system is running a lot of applications/tasks in the background while you are playing back the CD.
