As Windows 98* and Window Me require a unique user name, each user can set its own user name to start Windows.
When such a password is not necessary as you are the only person that uses the computer, you can make settings so that the dialog box of "Windows Logon" may not appear.

--Note--
The following procedure is for Windows 98*. Windows Me may have different windows sometimes, but you may carry out the similar procedure on them.

# To start Windows for the first time after its setup
--Procedure--
Enter only the user name on the dialog box of inputting a password, leaving the password box blank, and click the [OK] button.

--Note--
- Make sure to enter the user name. You may keep the password box blank.

- Some characters cannot be used in a user name and a password. You can enter them, but the dialog box of inputting a password appears again at the startup of Windows since they are invalid.

# If a password has been entered once at least
- To delete the file with the extension of "PWL".
- To edit the SYSTEM.INI file

To delete the file with the extension of "PWL"
--Procedure--
1) Click the [Start] menu and then click [Search]-[For Files or Folders].
2) Enter "*.pwl" in the [Named] text box and select [Windows Folders] on the [Look in] pull down menu.
3) Delete the files with the extension of "PWL" shown on the search results.
4) Click the [Start] button and then click [Settings]-[Control Panel].
5) Double-click the [Passwords] icon on [Control Panel].
6) Click the [User Profiles] tab and then click the option button of [All users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings.]
7) Double-click the [Network] icon on [Control Panel].
8) Click the [Configuration] tab and then click [Windows Logon] from [Primary Network Logon].
9) Restart the computer.
10) When the dialog box for inputting the user name and the password, follow the procedure described in the above "To start Windows for the first time after its setup".

To edit the SYSTEM.INI file

Changing the SYSTEM.INI file in the Window folder allows you not to display the logon window.

--Procedure--
1) Double-click the [My Computer] icon and then double-click [C:] icon.
2) Double-click the [Windows] folder.
3) Double-click the [SYSTEM.INI] icon.
4) Put a semi-colon on the top of the line of "ABCDE=C:\WINDOWS\ABCDE.PWL" 0000000000 to comment it out. ("ABCDE" represents a user name and "000000000" shows the folder to which Windows is installed.)
