    What's the difference between Notepad and Word Pad?

    --Notepad--
    - For Windows 9* and Windows Me
    It does not require formatting. Text files with size of 64KB or less can be created and edited with Notepad. Notepad can be used to open or save only the text in the ASCII format.

    - For Windows 2000
    Notepad is a basic text editor to create simple documents. It is not required to save the document that must be in the genuine text format by adding some specific formats. Notepad can be used to save the document in Unicode, ANSI, UTF-8 or Unicode big endian formats.

    --Word Pad--
    - You can create or edit the file that requires formatting or with size of 64KB or larger. Word Pad is a text editor for short documents. You can set the format of a document using various fonts and paragraph styles.
