Why can't I use NetMeeting with ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)?

If I try to use NetMeeting while connecting to the Internet with ADSL, communication cannot be done normally. Why is that so?

As situations are different depending on the type of ADSL modem, firstly you have to check the type of ADSL modem you have.

- For ADSL modem (USB type)
If you connect to the Internet with the ADSL modem (USB type), communication can be done through [NetMeeting] without any problem since a global IP address is set to the terminal. Should you encounter problems in communication through [NetMeeting], please contact your ADSL connection provider or Internet Service Provider.

- For ADSL modem (Router type)
A global IP address is set to the router. Your computer accesses the Internet using the NAT function. A private IP address is set to your machine that is connected to an ADSL modem from the ADSL modem (router type). In addition, ADSL modems (router type) are designed to be inaccessible from the external devices (from the Internet) in general. As such, principally speaking, communication cannot be done through [NetMeeting] normally.

In some cases, however, even the router-type ADSL modem may be set to allow access from external devices. In view of that, we would suggest you to check such possibility with your ADSL connection provider or Internet Service Provider.
