How to reduce or mute it.
Make the settings in reference to the following.
You can reduce the sound volume of the modem or turn it off with the following settings.
(Procedure)
In the case of Windows98 and Windows98SE
To reduce the sound volume
1. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
2. Double-click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon on "My Computer".
3. Right-click the dial-up icon used for the dial-up and click "Properties".
4. When the "Connection to: Properties" window appears, click the "Configure" button in the "Connect Using" box.
5. Moving the slider in the "Speaker volume" box on the "Sony Internal Modem Properties" window toward the "Off" side
would reduce the sound volume. (Moving the slider to the end of the "Off" side would not turn off the sound.)
6. Click the "OK" button on the "Sony Internal Modem Properties" window.
7. Click the "OK" button on the "Connection to: Properties" window.
- In the case of Windows 2000
To reduce the sound volume
1. Click the "Start" button and then click "Settings"-"Control Panel".
2. Double-click the icon of "Phone & Modem Options" on "Control Panel".
3. The "Phone & Modem Options" window appears.
When you click the "Modems" tab, a list of the installed modems appears.
Click the modem you use for dial-up and then click "Properties".
4. The window "Connect to: Properties" appears.
When you click the "General" tab and move the slider in the "Speaker Volume" to the "Off" side,
the sound volume of the modem becomes smaller. (Moving the slider to the end of the "Off" side would not turn off the sound.)
5. Click the "OK" button.
6. Click the "OK" button on the "Phone & Modem Options" window.
- In the case of Windows 2000
To turn off the sound of the modem
1. Click the "Start" button and then click "Settings"-"Control Panel".
2. Double-click the icon of "Network and Dial-Up Connections" on "Control Panel".
3. Right-click the dialup icon used for dialup and then click "Properties".
4. When the "Connect to: Properties" window appears,
click the "General" tab. Click the modem used for dialup in the "Connect Using" list and then click the "Configure" button.
5. The "Modem Configuration" window appears.
Turn off the checkbox of "Enable modem speaker" and click the "OK" button.
6. Click the "OK" button on the "Connect to: Properties" window.
