How to get sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time.

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

In order to hear sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time when watching TV or a movie, the source device must have multiple audio outputs.

IMPORTANT: Some TV models cannot output sound from both the headphones and the TV speakers at the same time. For details, refer to the manual of your TV.

NOTES:

  • A source device is used to describe the device that is providing the signal to the TV. Generally, this is an external device such as a cable box, satellite receiver (set-top box), or Blu-ray Disc player.
  • While some TVs have an audio output that can be used to connect headphones, in most cases this connection will disable the TV speakers.

If the model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instruction supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
