Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

Updating the TV to the latest software allows you access to the newest features and bug fixes.

IMPORTANT:

  • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up causing the TV to become unresponsive or require a repair.
  • Don't turn the TV off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating.
  • Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
  • Stop any recording before you start with the firmware update.

The steps to update the software differ depending on the menu system on your television.

For Android TV models:
Visit the following FAQ:
How do I perform Firmware/Software Updates for my Android TV?

For other models:
The update method is different

  1. If the TV is connected to the Internet.
  2. If the TV is not connected to the Internet.

If the TV is connected to the Internet:
By executing a Software Update, your TV immediately obtains the latest software from the Internet.

The steps to update the software differ depending on the menu system on your television.

NOTE: A Software Update Required message may appear when trying to access Internet video services.  If this message is displayed, follow the steps below to update the software on the TV.

Start the process by pressing the Home button on the remote control.  Depending on what is shown on your screen, follow the appropriate steps below:

  • If icon (Help) is displayed in the top-right corner of the screen:
  1. Select icon (Help).
  2. Select Customer Support.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select Yes to start installing the update.

  • If  icon (Help) is NOT displayed in the top-right corner of the screen:
  1. Select Settings.
  2. Select Setup or Product Support.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Select Yes to start installing the update.

  • If a Software Update option is not available in your menu:
Some older TVs do not have the ability to force the TV to search for a software update.  In these TVs there may only be an option to receive an Automatic Software Update .  Be sure this option is set to On if available. When this option is set to On, the TV will automatically search for software updates when the TV is in standby mode and you will be prompted to install the update once it is downloaded.

NOTE:

If the TV is not connected to the Internet:
If you want to update the software now, you can download a firmware update for free from the Sony Support website, then save it to a USB flash drive and install it on your TV.

NOTE:

  • A firmware update via our support pages is only available to models with USB software update capability.
  • For models without USB software update capability (often older models), service assistance is required.
