Question

The STANDBY light is flashing in red on the television.

Answer

Sony televisions include indication LEDs or lights on the lower front side of the television. These are used to indicate the status of the TV or to indicate that certain features are enabled.

When the STANDBY indicator is flashing in red (blinks On and Off ) and TV is not operating properly, this indicates that there may be an issue with the TV. Before calling customer support, please try to restore the TV operation by following the steps below:

  1. Try turning the power Off and then On by pressing the power button on the TV.
  2. Remove AC power from the TV for one minute by unplugging the TV from the outlet or power strip.
  3. Reset the TV to the original factory settings.
Click here for NX800 or W400A instructions. For other models, please refer to instruction manual or i-manual.
  4. If the TV is still not operating properly, TV may need service. Please count how many times the STANDBY indicator flashes between each two second break.
For example, the indicator may flash three times, go off for two seconds, then flash again for three times.
  5. Turn off the TV, disconnect the AC power cord safely and inform the local Sony Service Center of how the indicator flashes (number of flashes) so the technician can identify the issue.

Refer to below example illustration on the position of the STANDBY indicator for KDL-BR45 Series LCD TV. Please refer to the instruction manual to locate the position of the STANDBY indicator on other model.
