Why is the Net MD Walkman not recognized by the computer even though they are connected?

The Net MD Walkman is not recognized by the computer even though they are connected.

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

This symptom may be due to an incorrect installation procedures.

- Make sure SonicStage Ver.1.5 is installed correctly
- Try to uninstall and then reinstall SonicStage Ver.1.5
- Make sure SonicStage Ver.1.5 is present in the Task Tray.
- Make sure the device driver is correctly installed:
1. Firstly, connect the portable player to the computer.
2. In Device Manager, Unknown Devices, Other Devices or ! may be displayed.
3. Select the entry and click Uninstall. Alternatively, right-click the entry and click Uninstall.
4. The following message is displayed:
Warning: you are about to remove this device from your system
For Windows® 2000 Professional, Windows® XP Home Edition/Windows® XP Professional, the message Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system is displayed.
5. Click OK and remove the USB cable from the computer.
6. In Device Manager, check that Unknown Devices, Other Devices or ! is no longer displayed. Then, connect the portable player again.

Notes:
- It may occur that the driver has not been installed or that the portable player is connected to the computer before the driver was installed.
1. Double-click the name of portable player or Unknown Devices.
2. Click Reinstall Driver and follow the on-screen instructions of Update Driver Wizard
For Windows® 2000 Professional, Windows® XP Home Edition/Windows® XP Professional, follow the on-screen instructions of Hardware Update Wizard.
3. After the installation is completed, access Device Manager.
4. Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers
If the name of portable player is displayed, the installation has been successful.

- Even if the portable player driver has been installed, it may be incorrectly recognized by the computer.
If that happens, follow the on-screen instructions of Add New Hardware Wizard
For Windows® 2000 Professional, Windows® XP Home Edition/Windows® XP Professional, Found New Hardware is displayed.
