How to install Service Pack 2 (SP2) in Windows XP?

Installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).


Note

Below is the operation steps of Service Pack 2 (SP2) via Windows Update.

In addition, Automatic Updates of Windows XP since 2004 has the function of installing Service Pack 2 (SP2) automatically.
For computer without Service Pack 2 but with Automatic Updates enabled, system will download update program of Service Pack 2 when computer is connected with Internet.

If Automatic Updates program of Service Pack 2 cannot be installed via Windows Update , refer to the technical support information of Microsoft.

STEP1 Before installing, confirm the free space of HDD
STEP2 Download installation program via Internet
STEP3 Confirm whether installation is finished successfully.

STEP1 Before installing, confirm the free space of hardware


  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

  2. Right-click Local Disk(C:), and then click Properties.

     

  3. Click General tab, and confirm there are more than 1.5GB ~ 2GB free space.

    Remark

    In order to install Service Pack 2, free space is required as follow.
    When installing Service Pack 2, confirm there are more than 1.5GB ~ 2GB free space.

    The downloaded file from Internet About 300MB
    The temporary files generated by downloaded files About 350MB
    Files installed in computer About 350MB
    Folders for non-installation About 400MB
    Restore point zone (when system recovery (default value) is enabled ) Above 500MB

STEP2 Download installation program via Internet


Note

  •  
It takes a long time to install Service Pack 2(SP2)in Windows XP when anti-virus software is enabled.

  •  
If you install Service Pack 2 in the state of battery used, system may display following information.
Please use power adapter to install Service Pack 2.

  1. Connect Internet.

  2. Click Start-All Programs-Windows Update.

  3. After Welcome appears, click Express.

  4. Confirm that Windows XP Service Pack 2 appears in Get high-priority updates, click Install update program.



    Note

    As models and operating system are different, Windows XP Service Pack 2 may not appear, but various update program with high priority appear.
    Under such a situation, install the update program.
    Then install Service Pack 2

  5. After Download and install updates appears, click I Accept on the license agreement.

     

  6. The updates are being downloaded and installed, please wait.

     

  7. After You have successfully updated your computer, click Restart Now.

     

  8. After Protect your computer, check Enable Automatic Updates to protect computer, and then click Next.



    You can change settings when installation is finished.

Some models and operating system may display Windows Security Warning.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

  3. When System Properties appears, click General tab, and confirm Service Pack 2 displays.

     

  4. Click OK.
