What is High Dynamic Range (HDR)?

HDR content is given much wider dynamic range of luminance than standard video format at the creating process. HDR expands the range of both contrast and color. Bright parts of the image can get brighter, and the colors are expanded to show more bright blues, greens, reds and everything in between. The expansion of the contrast ratio and the color palette offers a more realistic, and natural picture.

What do I need to be able to watch movies or videos using HDR?

  • A Sony Android TV that supports HDR. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section at the bottom of this article for a list of the TVs that support the HDR feature.

    NOTE: Make sure that you have  downloaded the latest software update for the TV in order to make sure that the feature is activated.

  • One of the following HDR sources:
    • A HDR capable source device that is connected to the HDMI input on the TV.
    • A streaming service ( Netflix app) that offers HDR movies and videos

      NOTE: Contact the app provider for information regarding if or when HDR content will be supported.

How to enable HDR on the TV:

The HDR Video mode on the TV is an enhanced picture mode for HDR format videos that can be accessed from the menu of the TV. It is necessary to enable the HDMI Enhanced format of the Android 4K TV to activate the HDR feature.

  1. Press the HOME button of the supplied remote control.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to External Inputs and press Enter.
  4. Select HDMI signal format.
  5. Select Enhanced format.
